A spell in hospital
The last few weeks have been somewhat dramatic, to say the least.
I did my usual evening swimming session on a Monday and Tuesday night about 3 weeks back. Felt absolutely knackered afterwards, and I'd assumed it was just because I overdid it.
However, the following day, I was helping shift some large bags of compost around and felt pretty well exhausted afterwards. Hadn't moved them far either.
A few days later, I'm in Big Town Number 2 (I'm halfway between two Big Towns, possibly slightly closer to Big Town Number 1). The last thing I remember was walking through the shopping centre. Next thing I'm waking up in an ambulance on the way to hospital.
Several tests in A&E and I was admitted overnight. My blood count was apparently very low so I was given a transfusion. One unit, then was well enough to go home.
A few days later I still felt breathless and dizzy, so was advised by the NHS to go to the nearest A&E department (this one was in Big Town Number 1). On arrival at A&E they found I was severely anaemic and admitted me. I was given another unit of blood, and the levels checked.
Still low, so in for another night, another unit. Then a few hours later an iron infusion.
The levels came back up to normal, but I'm still exhausted doing the slightest thing.
I have a follow-up appointment on Thursday this week and another on Wednesday the week after to attempt to figure out what's gone wrong and how I managed to lose 3 pints of blood without even noticing.
I'll keep you all posted.
PS - Happy Star Wars day everyone!
